Topic– This week I would like you to make a minibeast home/hotel. I would like you to think about the minibeasts you found last week, where did you find them, where were they hiding? Look the minibeast habitat PowerPoint and watch the clips, think about what you would need to build your own minibeast hotel/home. Where would be a good place to make a minibeast home/hotel? If you would like to you could draw a picture of how you would like your minibeast home to look or draw a picture of what it looks like after if you would prefer. Go for a walk and collect some things you can use, sticks, wood, pine cones, sand, stone, soil, old tiles anything you can find that you would like to use. I have attached some idea.

World book day– On Thursday it is World book day and we will be celebrating in different ways throughout the school. I would like the children to dress up as their favourite book character and wear or make a crazy mad hatters hat. We will be having a Zoom call at 9.30 along with the Piskies who are at school. It would be great if we could have a little mad hatters tea party with our hat, costumes, a nice drink and perhaps some cake. I will try and guess the children’s characters and the children can tell me who they are dressed as. I will read the children a story and enjoy a nice piece of cake.

St David’s day  and St Pirans Day Friday.- I will send out some resources to share with your children if you wish to celebrate either of these days with your children. There are some lovely Daffodil craft activities for St David’s day and you could make or eat pasties on Friday for St Piran’s day.

Topic and Chinese New Year-
Our new topic is minibeasts, during this topic we will be exploring minibeasts and their habitats, growth and change, similarities and differences, plants ,flowers and seasons.
To launch our topic I would like you to visit a local park, woodland or garden to carry out a minibeast safari. Encourage the children to search for minibeasts that wriggle, crawl or fly, looking under logs, leaves, stones and in leaf litter. Take tools to dig in the soil and torches to investigate the nooks and crannies of trees. Show the children how to gently shake tree branches over a white cloth to catch minibeasts hiding there. Use paintbrushes, spoons to carefully move the minibeasts. Encourage the children to look carefully at the creatures using small magnifying glasses, and take photographs of them before returning them to the wild. Watch the Minibeast safari! video and use Minibeast safari spotting sheet.

It is still Chinese New Year and at school we would have been doing lots of activities to learn about the celebrations. Please watch the power points of Chinese new year and listen to the audio book. To celebrate Chinese new year you could try or make some Chinese food, create a Chinese dragon, make a Chinese lantern, it would be great seeing some children use chopsticks too. I look forward to seeing some pictures of what you all do to celebrate .

Topic

This week I would like you to think about our topic and the things you have discovered. What has been your favourite part of this topic? Is there anything else that you would like to find out? I would like children this week to keep a diary of all of the healthy things they have done over the week. They could note down when they have brushed their teeth , eaten some healthy food, done some exercise, done something that makes them happy etc. Children as always can draw pictures and write labels or write a sentence if they feel able. It would be great to be able to share some of these on our Friday zoom to finish off this topic.

The Zoom link for tomorrow is on Tapestry, remember to wear your clothes back to front 😃

I will be reading the book ‘Worries go away’ by Kes Gray and Lee Wildish for our zoom meeting. The little girl in the story is worried and goes off into a world of her own in her head. I would like the children to think about what their own imaginary world would be like for example a world full of rainbows and unicorns where everything is made out of sweet things, candyfloss clouds etc. Anything that they would like. I will read the story and ask the children about their worlds at the end. The children could draw a picture of what it would be like if they wanted to show me.

To conclude mental health week the whole school is having an Interests day on Friday so feel free to partake in the work set or have a day of doing whatever the children are interested in. For our zoom call the children can dress in whatever they would like, fancy dress, something to do with what they are interested in, a book character or whatever they would like.

I look forward to seeing lots of you again on Zoom

World Mental Health Week

National Storytelling week

Good Afternoon Everyone ,

Here is the learning grid and files for Monday’s learning as well as the weeks topic information.

This week is World Mental health week and National storytelling week so we will incorporate both of these things into our usual week. I will be having a daily zoom check in in aid of Mental health week, please don’t worry if you can’t make every one it will just be a quick check in call. In addition to our daily class story and in celebration of National storytelling week there will be an extra daily story read by another adult in the school. Any video’s of the children reading a story or telling a story would be great too.

This week I may ask children to wear or do silly things to celebrate both events for example silly hair or wear bright odd socks. On Monday if the children would like to they could dress up as one of their favourite characters from a book, don’t worry if they don’t want to it’s just a bit of fun.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on our Zoom calls each day, I will send the Zoom links out via Tapestry.

Phonics-

Our new letter sound today has the same letters as last weeks ‘oo’  but this one makes a short sound ‘oo’ as in the word book.  My video of the new sound can be found on Tapestry.

Topic-

This week I would like you to think about how we can keep our bodies and minds healthy through exercise, healthy eating , good hygiene, looking after our teeth, how to keeping our bodies and minds healthy.

– Explore different exercises and observe how your heart rate changes when doing different activities. Use the sheet provided to identify changes to our body during exercise.

-What activities can we do to unwind our bodies and our minds? Talk about a healthy mind being just as important as a healthy body. Why is it important to get enough sleep to keep healthy?

– Talk to the children about the importance of good hygiene and in particular the importance of washing hands given the current situation.

– Ask the children why it is important to look after our teeth and how can we look after our teeth? You could do the boiled egg experiment to show the children how different liquids can affect our teeth. Ask the children to predict what they think will happen. Ask questions about the experiment, were your predictions correct?. Which egg changed the most etc?  Can you record your results using pictures and labels. What happened?

I am attaching a variety of different PowerPoint presentations and activities that you can use to promote both a healthy mind and a healthy body. I look forward to seeing all of the different things you get up to.
