Kennall Vale School, along with many Cornish schools, has decided to adopt the INSPIRE CURRICULUM
which was designed to be an inspirational way of teaching and learning, that would fulfill the requirements of the 2014 National Curriculum. It more than fulfills – it enriches and, as the name suggests, inspires. Briefly the INSPIRE CURRICULUM is topic based learning split into 4 weekly units all of which link and incorporate the changes to the 2014 curriculum including:
- More challenge in Mathematics (Calculators end of KS2)
- Calculation policies
- Greater emphasis in Science
- A new subject Computing
- An emphasis on British History
Additionally there is a local flavour to much of the curriculum which will give some context band meaning to our pupils in Cornwall.

All pupils will be assessed in line with the new arrangements for assessment from 2014. Pupils will no longer be given levels. It is recognised that pupils fall broadly within three categories in their acquisition of knowledge and understanding. Pupils are either at ‘the expected level of development, emerging or exceeding the expected level of development for their age.
Pupils who are at the emerging stage of development within any subject will be given additional support to ensure they make good progress.
Pupils at the expected level of development will be challenged to ensure they make good progress.
Pupils exceeding their level of development will be further challenged by engaging in a curriculum that is enriched and challenging to ensure they are working at their full potential.
In addition to these subjects Kennall Vale is committed to ensuring each pupil develops a Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural awareness in order to prepare and support them throughout their school career and beyond.
