Piskies Class

Piskies Class is currently Reception class taught by Mrs Zorab and Mr Chirgwin (class teacher’s) and Mrs Fidler (Teaching Assistant). In Piskies class we are happy to learn and enjoy the rich and varied learning experiences on offer to us. We follow the Giant Phonics program and are learning to read and write quickly and confidently, and we apply this knowledge in a range of child initiated and adult directed contexts. We also have plenty of opportunities to apply our maths, reasoning and problem solving skills in our play. We enjoy using our indoor and outdoor learning environments, both of which are full of open ended resources that really stimulate our imaginations, giving us lots of opportunities for taking risks, setting challenges and overcoming obstacles. We love visiting places around the village too, including the playing field and Kennall Vale Woods. Throughout the day we develop our communication skills by learning to listen, ask questions and share our ideas and news. We learn to be caring, considerate and confident children, ready to move on to the next stage in our learning journey. We are a cheerful bunch of Piskies, so please come in and visit us – we promise to greet you with a smile!

Spellings and Phonics

The National Curriculum identifies the sounds pupils should recognise and use in their spelling at different stages of their development (from Year 1). Here are lists for Year 1:

Year 1: Spelling Year 1.

We are also working hard to learn to read and write our high frequency words, they can also be found here:

The first 100 high frequency words: The first 100 high frequency words.

The next 200 high frequency words: The next 200 high frequency words.

We now have Tapestry up and running. It is proving a highly valuable source of information for both families and school. Blow is a link to the briefing session that took place in the Autumn term 2017.
