Piskies Class

Piskies is our reception class, taught by Mrs Zorab, Mr Chirgwin and Mrs Fidler (HLTA). In Piskies class we love learning through play, we want our children to be happy, curious and independent learners who have a real love of learning. We deliver our learning through a balance of adult led and child-initiated activities, aiming to develop the children’s independence and make them intrinsically motivated to learn throughout their environment. We provide a fun and exciting curriculum that allows them to succeed as unique individuals and celebrate their achievements. We create a stimulating and challenging learning environment, both indoors and outdoors where children feel safe and secure and have the confidence to be independent learners. We fully immerse the children in learning through the use of stories, roleplay, trips, visitors, art activities, regular trips to Kennall Vale woods and many more.

We use an online learning journey called Tapestry to capture children’s experiences and we encourage parents to contribute as much as possible. This unique journal is shared online with parents, who are able to see special moments and view their child’s progress.

We follow the Twinkl Phonics programme learning our letters and sounds using actions and songs.  We apply this knowledge in a range of child initiated and adult directed contexts and use our phonic knowledge to help us become confident readers and writers.

In Maths we use the Mastery approach which gives us . We also have plenty of opportunities to apply our maths, reasoning and problem solving skills in our play both indoors and outdoors.
